Before Marilyn Monroe:-New Photos of Norma Jeane as a Model for the Blue book Agency.
Before she became Marilyn Monroe, the worlds sexiest blonde Hollywood star, she was Norma Jeane Baker.
Marilyn was a model before she hit the big screens and became the star we all know and love.
She was signed by the Blue Book Agency in Los Angeles.
Twenty years ago, Astrid and Ben Franse, owners of a Fifties memorabilia store, were in a vintage shop in Los Angeles when the shopkeeper came over with a box, telling them: ‘It’s press clippings and pictures of Marilyn Monroe. I only got a quick look. It was take it or leave it.’
The couple bought the box and took it home to the Netherlands, where it was stored under a desk and promptly forgotten – until 2012 when a dealer telephoned from the U.S. about a client who was a big Marilyn fan.
Ben remembered the box and went to check what it contained. He was stunned. It was the archive of Blue Book, the modelling agency that launched Marilyn’s career.
There were negatives, letters, telegrams, photos and worksheets.
Using this treasure trove of unseen images, Astrid and Marilyn expert Michelle Morgan, author of ‘Marilyn Monroe: Private And Undisclosed’, have been able to tell the little-known story of Marilyn before she was famous..

The Hollywood Muesum remembers Marilyn Monroe
Featuring some of Marilyn's personal items as well as her costumes from films such as the 1955's "The Seven Year Itch and even the medication that was on her nightstand the night she died on August 6th 1962
Founder and President of the Hollywood Museum, Donelle Dadigan, said that the exhibition spans Marilyn's entire life. Featuring photos as Norma Jeane as a baby through to her career, her loves, marriages and her untimely death at 36.
The main highlight are photos that were previously unpublished by Milton Greene. Marilyn and Milton met in 1953 when he took photos of Marilyn who was an up and coming actress, for Look magazine. The photos include a mixture of candid and studio portraits on the set of her 1956 film "Bus Stop."
Dadigan acquired some 1,000 never-before-published Greene images of Monroe a few years ago at auction."We have the negatives, the transparencies and the copyrights," said Dadigan, who will be adding more Greene photos as well as Monroe photos shot by other photographers during the exhibition.
The museum, said Dadigan, has an international network of donors. "This time we have five different collections from all around the world."
Jill Adams donated collectibles that include Monroe Barbie dolls, drinking glasses, ceramic figurines and even a wine called Marilyn Merlot.
"Her popularity continues to grow over the years," said Adams. "People want an attachment to her in any way shape or form. I loved her since I was 6 years old. It was because of my grandma. She related to Marilyn — she was of the same time period."
Monroe, who would have been 89 this year, "has gotten more popular as the years have passed," noted Dadigan. "With Marilyn, there are people who come from around the world for pilgrimages [to Los Angeles] for her birthday and they come for the anniversary of her death."
Dadigan believes that men were attracted to Monroe's beauty as well as her vulnerability. "They wanted to rescue her." Women also loved Monroe, Dadigan adds, because "she had that realness that women could relate to. She had issues, she made mistakes."
Among the other highlights of the exhibition:
Monroe's USO and Joe DiMaggio honeymoon dresses.
Jewelry from 1953's "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" and "How to Marry a Millionaire."
Monroe's own hot pink Pucci top and black satin jeans.
Her makeup chair and makeup kit.
Photographs from her childhood

Islington teens meet mock Marilyn
An Islington student met a mock Marilyn Monroe at a swanky prom for her sixth form college.
Harriet Hutton, 18, from Ripplevale Grove, Barnsbury, strolled down the red carpet Hollywood glamour themed event on May 8.
Another local student, Oliver Binks, also 18, from nearby Thornhill Square, was one of the 120 students to enjoy the do, which included cocktails, canapes, a two course meal and a disco in Fulham Palace. The bash was organised by DLD – a private college based in Marylebone and Belgravia.
Harriet said: ““I have spent my A level years at DLD and during this time I feel that I have matured and developed due to the learning opportunities provide by the college.
“The teachers are amazing with the gift to inspire young people to discover talents that they themselves may not have realised that they possessed.”

Before Marilyn: The Blue Book Modelling Years
Before Marilyn: The Blue Book Modelling Years
Before Marilyn tells the story of Marilyn Monroe’s modelling career, during which time she was signed to the famous Blue Book Agency in Hollywood. The head of the agency, Miss Emmeline Snively, saw potential in the young woman and kept detailed records and correspondence throughout their professional relationship and beyond. On the day of Monroe’s funeral, Snively gave an interview from her office, talking about the girl she had discovered, before announcing, rather dramatically, that she was closing the lid on her Marilyn Monroe archive that day – to ‘lock it away forever’. This archive was purchased by Astrid Franse, and together with bestselling Marilyn Monroe biographer Michelle Morgan they draw on this collection of never-before-seen documents, letters and much, much more. Before Marilyn explores an aspect of Monroe’s life that has never been fully revealed – by charting every modelling job she did, and illustrating the text with rare and unpublished photographs of the young model and her mentor.
The book is to released on July 6th but you can order yours today.
